If you’ve ever been to the Colorado Capitol, then you know that it’s much more than a government office; it’s a museum full of beautiful and historic artwork. Inside the Capitol building in downtown Denver are several stained glass windows that so remarkable, they’ll have you staring for days. Not only are these stained glass windows incredibly intricate and beautiful, they’re also a representation of an important part of Colorado’s history.

When one walks into the Colorado Capitol, they are immediately greeted by a number of compelling sights. The walls and surfaces inside the building are laden with a rare rose marble known as Colorado Rose Onyx. Several immense and ornate chandeliers illuminate the interior and the rooms are decorated with fabrics and furnishings that bring to life a world and time that existed decades past.

But perhaps one of the most notable spectacles inside the Colorado Capitol are the stained glass windows. Throughout the entire building, there are several large and intricate stained glass panels that depict lifelike scenes and portraits of important events and people that have contributed to the success of Colorado as a state. Among those depicted in the windows are famous educator Emily Griffith, Otto Mears, the railroad engineer, Ruth Stockton, and other notable figures.

When one ventures to the third floor of the building, they can get a good look at the famous rotunda filled with stained glass portraits. The rotunda can be viewed by guests on a self guided tour or with the assistance of a sanctioned tour guide. If you do plan on visiting the capitol to view these stained glass windows, we recommend blocking out a good portion of your day as there are so many to see.
