Preserving Denver’s Stained Glass Legacy withChurch Stained Glass Repair
On 30, May 2023 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Religious And Church Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
Introduction: Denver, Colorado, is renowned for its breathtaking stained glass windows adorning the city’s historic churches. These magnificent works of art not only add beauty to the architecture but also serve as a testament to Denver’s rich religious history. Preserving these cherished stained glass windows is crucial to maintaining the legacy they represent. In this blog post, we will explore the signs that indicate a church’s stained glass may require repair and highlight the essential first step in preserving Denver’s religious heritage.
Signs that Church Stained Glass Needs Repair
- Chips and Cracks: Over time, exposure to environmental factors such as temperature fluctuations and natural disasters can cause chips and cracks in stained glass windows. These imperfections not only compromise the visual appeal but can also weaken the structural integrity of the entire window. When light passes through the damaged areas, it may scatter unevenly, dulling the vibrant colors and intricate details. Timely repair and restoration can prevent further damage and ensure the window’s longevity.
- Missing Lead Joints: Lead joints play a vital role in holding the individual glass pieces together and maintaining the overall stability of a stained glass window. Over the years, these lead joints can deteriorate due to age, weathering, or improper maintenance. If you notice gaps or breaks in the lead work, it is essential to address them promptly. Failing to repair missing lead joints can result in glass panels shifting or even falling out, posing a safety risk to both the window and the people within the church.
- Missing Pieces: The absence of individual glass pieces from a stained glass window is another telltale sign that repair is needed. Whether due to accidental breakage, vandalism, or the passage of time, missing pieces can significantly impact the overall aesthetic and historical integrity of the window. Additionally, the gaps left behind by the missing glass can compromise the window’s structural integrity and allow moisture or debris to infiltrate, leading to further deterioration. Replacing these missing pieces with carefully crafted replicas ensures the window’s authenticity is preserved while maintaining its visual appeal.

The Three Top Reasons Denver Homeowners Install Stained Glass
On 31, Dec 2022 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Custom Stained Glass, Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
We have installed stained glass in countless homes throughout Denver over the past 25 years, and our customers are always satisfied with how it looks. But there are more benefits to having stained glass than just its physical beauty. Listed below are the three primary reasons why homeowners come to us looking for stained glass installation services.
Stained Glass For Privacy in Your Denver Home
The primary motive for Denver homeowners to have stained glass installed is to attain more privacy. The expansion of this Denver has led to residences being built increasingly closer together, which means people driving down the street or neighbors can see directly into homes. Consequently, houses here need more privacy. Places like bathrooms and bedrooms typically top that list. Another well-known place for privacy stained glass is the sidelights adjacent to doors; however, in areas such as these, stained glass also provides security in addition to privacy.
Stained Glass for Adding Resale Value to Your Denver Home
Stained glass is a classic way to add value – both literal and figurative – to any Denver home. Our customers often seek us out for stained glass that will bring an elevated level of sophistication to their decor. But what they may not realize is that, in addition to its refined aesthetic appeal, stained glass also raises the intrinsic value of their property. In fact, per square foot, stained glass appreciates at a rate more than 10 times higher than its installation cost! So when it comes time to sell or appraise, homeowners with stained glass can expect to see a significant return on investment.
Stained Glass For a Custom Denver Home Look
Homeowners who purchase stained glass from us do so because they want a one-of-a-kind look for their homes. Church Stained Glass Restoration Project: The Rising Church
On 29, Apr 2022 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass Repair And Restoration | By Martin Faith
We’ve had the honor of working on several church stained glass restoration projects over the past three decades. One of our most recent projects has been successfully completed. This project was at the Rising Church in Arvada, CO. The Rising Church is renowned for its extensive homeless outreach and community work. During an unfortunate misunderstanding, someone thought they heard noises from inside the church after it had closed. In an effort to help, they threw rocks through almost every stained glass window. Fortunately, no one was inside but the result was significant damage to their windows.
Church Stained Glass Restoration Process and Challenges
The original windows built back in 1913 featured hand-painted work and stained glass panels. Approximately 90% of their windows were damaged, therefore, we carefully removed and transported them back to our studio. From there, we had new glass manufactured for a 100% match to the original. Hand-painted pieces were mended through a proprietary process and new lead framing was built. When the original windows had been installed, pieces of the outer lead frame were removed in order to fit the building. In order to combat this challenge, we resized the windows during restoration and shaved them down on-site to ensure proper installation. We also installed an additional custom protective glass layer made of vented polycarbonate for extra protection and durability. Exterior repainting was also completed to create a modern, clean curb appeal.

Beautiful Ways To Incorporate Stained Glass into Weddings
On 06, Apr 2022 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Custom Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
Weddings season may not be here yet, but brides and grooms in Denver are already getting ready for their big days. These occasions are a great time to reconnect with friends and families, celebrate love, and get wonderful heirloom photos. One unique element that will transform wedding and reception venues is stained glass. Below are a few ways we have seen stained glass used in weddings for a fantastic effect.
Stained Glass Alter Backdrops for Denver Weddings
One of the best ways to get gorgeous photos of your vows is to ensure a stained glass backdrop. You can always select a church with stained glass to ensure it is prevalent in pictures. However, even if you are not getting married in a church, you can find a stained glass backdrop rental or have a custom stained glass panel made to stand in the background. Either way, your vows will be picture-perfect with stained glass.
Stained Glass Panels for Memorable Moments
Some people rent photo booths for their weddings; others set up areas with backdrops for selfies and fun group pictures. Adding a stained glass panel to the mix is the perfect way to add elegance and something very unique to these settings. Antique stained glass panels are one option, or you can have something custom-made that will become a family heirloom after the celebration. When you choose custom stained glass, you can have it made with the colors of your wedding, your name, wedding date, and more!
Stained Glass Wedding Reception Signs in Denver
We get quite a few requests for stained glass panels as signs for wedding reception halls. These panels can be free-standing or come ready to hang. They are typically used at the entrance to reception to denote the wedding event space. These are some of the most unique and attractive ways to point people to the reception for your big day. These always become family heirlooms and are something you can pass down to your kids one day too.

Unique Stained Glass Applications
On 04, Apr 2022 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
Church windows are probably the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word stained glass. However, there are many different types of stained glass out there. Nobody understands this better than us since we are one of the country’s most prolific stained glass studios. In our 20 years, we have crafted numerous stained glass pieces for various applications. Read below to learn about some of our amazing creations.
Unique Stained Glass Applications
Family Crest stained Glass: These are usually stained glass panels hung in a family home. They often will have a family Coat of Arms or crest iconography on them. Also, a family surname is used in the overall design.
Stained Glass Lampshades: Some of the most famous stained glass lampshades were made by Tiffany Studios. However, lampshade stained glass is a fairly common display. We have made stained glass lamp shades for homes and businesses in Denver. It is usually found in eating areas or recreational spaces.
Stained Glass Decorative Panels: Stained glass decorative panels are very popular right now. They are hung in windows and can even be used as room dividers over counters and nooks. The best part about these panels is they are often very artsy and created specifically for your Denver home’s decor.
Stained Glass Wedding Panels: A great way to get the perfect photos for your wedding ceremony is to have a stained glass background. These can be a free-standing panel or hung behind the space where the bride and groom will make their vows. Also popular are stained glass reception signs which can then be repurposed into family heirlooms.
Stained Glass Cabinet Doors: Glass looks great on kitchen cabinets but allows the clutter in the cabinets to be easily seen. An excellent alternative is cabinet door stained glass. It is customizable, so it can be made to match your kitchen decor and give as little or as much coverage as you want.

How Long Does Stained Glass Last?
On 21, Feb 2022 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
Stained glass is a durable material that lasts generations and is timeless in appearance. Works of Stained glass art made in the 20th century will typically last about 80-100 years before the lead starts to fail and put the window at risk of demise. There are some things, however, that you as a stained glass owner can do to extend the life of your window for as long as possible.
Caring for Your Denver Home’s Stained Glass Windows
Consider your stained glass window to be a work of art. As these valuable pieces of furniture gain age, they acquire value that you want to keep as long as possible. The key to your stained glass’s longevity is proper upkeep. Here are some recommendations from us for you to care for your Denver home’s beautiful and valuable stained glass.
Prolong the Life of Your DenverHome’s Stained Glass With Regular Cleanings
The secret to a long life and brilliant appearance of stained glass is regular maintenance. Grime will accumulate on your stained glass, especially because this sort of glass usually has more texture. You may prevent dirt from accumulating by lightly dusting your home’s stained glass once a month. Professionals should handle the deep cleaning since it involves solutions that take dirt off without too much pressure on the plate of glass.
Prolong the Life of Your Denver Home’s Stained Glass with Regular Professional Cleanings
A yearly cleaning by a professional is excellent for your stained glass. This is especially true if you’re someone who forgets to clean your windows on a regular basis. A skilled contract has the appropriate equipment and cleansers to properly clean your stained glass windows. They’ll also examine your glass closely to determine whether any problems have developed over time.
Prolong the Life of Your Denver Home’s Stained Glass by Having Small Damage Repaired Right Away
Minor damage to stained glass windows can occur when the weather is inclement in Denver. Although small weather-related breakage, chips, and scratches are possible, stained glass is extremely resilient and fractured. These little issues are simple to fix and do not cost a lot of money to repair. If you wait to have repairs made, the structure of the glass might be affected. This usually means that pieces of broken glass fall out, which could mean a very expensive structural repair.

Restoring the Historic Stained Glass Windows in Vernon A.M.E. Church in Tulsa
On 28, May 2021 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Church Stained Glass Restoration, Religious And Church Stained Glass, Stained Glass Repair And Restoration | By Martin Faith
Located on the corner of Greenwood Avenue and Cameron Street near downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma is one of the oldest and most historically significant buildings in the United States. The Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church is the only building to have survived one of the worst race massacres in American history and is a visual reminder of the reconstruction process.
On May 31st, it will have been 100 years since this terrible incident occurred. The events which took place on May 31st and June 1st of 1921 resulted in the destruction of a once vibrant and affluent African American community in Tulsa referred to as “Black Wall Street.”
When a mob of angry white people came tearing through the neighborhood, black residents of the community were forced to flee their homes in order to escape the terrible violence. Historians estimate that approximately 300 people were killed and another 10,000 were left homeless.
During this time, some members of the community were able to find safe harbor in the basement of the Vernon A.M.E Church.
Recently, Scottish Stained Glass had the honor of being able to complete the restoration of the historic stained glass windows in the church. Below, we’ve discussed the restoration project in detail.
Our Latest Portfolio Stained Glass Project: Sam Houston State University
On 04, May 2021 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass Projects | By Martin Faith
One of our favorite parts of the job here at Denver Stained Glass is definitely giving our customers back their lovely stained glass windows when we do restorations or rebuilds. It is wonderful to see the joy that restored stained glass brings to churches, synagogues, historic homes, and, like in this case, universities. As part of the Scottish Stained Glass family, we are lucky enough to take part in restoring stained glass masterpieces regularly. Like the window as Sam Houston State University–lost to a fire.
Replicating Sam Houston State’s Historic Stained Glass Window
Sam Houston State University is one of the oldest in Texas–founded in 1879. Its original design included a lovely stained glass window. This window was iconic to the school but was sadly destroyed in a fire (1982) that ravaged one of the main original buildings. SHSU decided to commemorate their school motto “The measure of a Life is its Service, through replicating the original stained glass. They entrusted us with the charge–and we were truly honored to be a part of preserving the legacy of such an amazing organization.
The First Challenge of Restoring Sam Houston State University’s Lost Stained Glass
By far the biggest challenge of this job was the fact that our team was creating a replication from very little. It is important to us to always deliver the respect these cherished stained glass pieces deserve through accurately restoring or recreating. With only a picture from a 1962 yearbook to guide their way, they began first by recreating the design using modern technology.
We first scanned the picture into the computer and painstakingly traced each line. After that, we scanned the drawing into our design software for perfect proportions to the original then double the size per request of the university.
The Second Challenge of Restoring Sam Houston State University’s Lost Stained Glass
The second issue was one of sourcing materials used over a century ago. The materials from that era simply did not exist. This meant finding the exact colors would be a challenge. We came up with a brilliant solution to this. We first tapped our conservation specialist to find glass in colors that were as close as possible to the originals. Denver Stained Glass Portfolio Review: Stunning Painted Stained Glass
On 29, Aug 2020 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Painted Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
Here at Denver Stained Glass, we are lucky enough to be part of one of the most proficient stained glass studios in the country–Scottish Stained Glass. This means we get to be part of some pretty outstanding stained glass installations. While each is challenging in its own way–they are all equally fulfilling because we get to transform more than just windows but lives too. Take for example our most recent large installation at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church located in Wray, CO.
The Scope of Our Custom Stained Glass Project
For a small town, stained glass installation was a big one. It took place in a newer church that was built about 30 years ago. As it happened this church did not have stained glass windows in the sanctuary and felt like this type of artwork would really make their place of worship feel more like a house of God. So they reached out to us to install five original large stained glass windows on the east side. This type of custom work is right up our alley.
Customizing Stained Glass to Be Historically Accurate and Beautiful
The church congregation wanted a depiction of the five Luminous Mysteries (baptism, wedding, proclamation, transfiguration, and last supper) –something that was very important to them. We decided to create custom artwork. This is because we have such an amazing painted glass specialist Maria–and skilled stained glass painters are hard to find. We used actual models to get the exact poses.
We also did extensive research for historical accuracy like:
- The Appropriate background and foliage for the region
- Authentic tile design for floors in that time-period
- A historically accurate depiction of the town of Cana
The Beauty of Custom Painted Stained Glass
The results of our custom, five-panel stained glass project in St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church were in a word–stunning. We used mostly black and brown paint with the majority of the color pulled from the glass background. We also harnessed the natural sunlight to create depth in things like the faces, hands, fauna, and flora. The result was a three-dimensional look that was not only authentic but breathtaking as well. In the end, the members of the congregation who watched (socially distanced were amazed and one member even said “Now we have a church”. It is this affirmation and the pride in a job well done that makes us love custom stained glass creation.

Stained Glass Restoration Long-Term Cost Benefits and More
On 26, Feb 2020 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass Repair And Restoration | By Martin Faith
Stained glass restoration can be a big undertaking for any church in the Denver area. There is the cost to consider but there is also time to consider as well. The amount of time the stained glass windows will be gone from your chapel—and also the time your church congregation will donate to organizing the repair. For these reasons, churches need to ask the question—how will this restoration ultimately benefit them.
Three Ways Restoration Benefits Churches
- Preserving Church History: For many congregations, their stained glass windows, even ones that need to be repaired, are a point of pride. As well they should be! These windows are a much a part of church history as the many members that have marked many significant occasions beneath them: weddings, funerals, and confirmations just to name a few. The cost of losing this beloved piece of church history far outweighs the cost of a restoration.
- Preserving Denver History: There are so many wonderful things about Denver and one of them is buildings like your church and the historical significance of its antique stained glass windows. By restoring your stained glass windows then, your church will be keeping its place in city history as well. This is why a good way to fund your church stained restoration is through historical grants.
- Savings On Future Repairs: Stained glass (especially church stained glass) is different from other antiques. It is not worth more in its original state. When a church stained glass window begins to structurally (about 80 years of age)—it is in danger of becoming worse by the day. And this ultimately leads to total failure. So by restoring the windows in your chapel, you are actually saving from what would have definitely been a more extensive restoration in the future.
These are all excellent and compelling benefits to understand the true cost of repairing your church’s stained glass. For more information, or to have us come out and give you an appraisal ($500 minimum) here in the Denver area or most states in the US—contact us at Denver Stained Glass today!

Add Privacy and Beauty to Your Denver Home’s Entry with Stained Glass
On 09, Sep 2019 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass For Entryways | By Martin Faith
One of the most common mistakes that homeowners make with their entryway is blocking off their windows. They’re worried about strangers being able to see into their home through their sidelights or other windows near their front door. This is a valid concern. After all, there are tons of people who approach your front door on a regular basis – the mailman, Amazon delivery drivers, and door-to-door salesman.
But the problem is, when you cover up your front windows with blinds or curtains, you alter the aesthetics of your entryway a great deal. And you also block out all of the natural light coming into your home. Entryway stained glass offers Denver homeowners an alternative to traditional privacy options like blinds and sunshades. It’s a great way to add privacy and beauty to your entry, which is one of the most important features of your home.
The Reasons For Stained Glass in Churches?
On 29, Aug 2019 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass Repair And Restoration | By Martin Faith
There is no denying that stained glass is lovely. Whether on the towering windows of Notre Dame Cathedral to the quaint windows of local Denver churches it is simply a delight to congregations and members and communities alike. These types of windows have been delighting congregations for more than a thousand years. They span generations and denominations alike. Regardless of people’s theology from church to church, one fact that most can agree on is–stained glass windows are stunning. But why exactly do churches have stained glass? Is there something to them beyond simply beauty? Is there something more to these pieces beyond their obvious artistic value? Why are they such a ubiquitous part of cathedrals and chapels not just here in Denver but across the US and even the world? As it were, there are actually a few reasons why you see stained glass on many churches. Today we will highlight the two most prominent ones–spiritual and practical.
The Christian Religion’s Relationship With Light
In the Christian religion, there has always been a special relationship with light. Stained glass in churches clearly reflects this. In fact, it allows for the use of light in a particularly ethereal way. It is understandable then, that churches from Methodists to Catholic appreciate the play of light combined with the iconography so important to them. In Genesis, God’s first words were “‘Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3-4) With this type of reference to light so early in such a sacred book, it is easy to see why Christian churches would embrace light through stained glass. Accordingly, they spent much time and energy developing a church feature that perfectly embodies God first gift to man. Stained glass windows in churches bring light into an otherwise dark interior, it casts out shadows and brings relief. Not unlike the God of Genesis. There is no doubt that early architects wanted light through the lovely ornate windows of old to play out much like it did in the Bible. They saw stained glass as a perfect way to highlight the spiritual truth of light while at the same time being functional. Ostensibly this happened over 1000 years ago, as, the oldest surviving stained glass window is found in the Augsburg Cathedral in Germany and was built in the 11th century. Since those days stained glass windows in churches have changed a lot. However, embracing the proverbial light of God has not. In fact, stained glass windows changed in their relationship with the church over time to become more than just spiritually useful but practical as well. Eventually, these windows began to not only served as a representation of the light of God but as a critical teaching tool as well.
Stained Glass Symbolism As A Teaching Tools
During the medieval period, stained glass windows were the best way to teach the poor about God. Because during this time the masses were illiterate. Also, they lacked access to copies of the bible, which were few. Only the rich and clergy had Bibles so it was easier to disseminate stories through the use of stained glass on churches rather than books. It was more accessible and easier for the poor to understand. If fact, in some larger church windows almost all the important stories from the books of Genesis to Revelations played out in glass. Soon the saints too appeared on windows and helped inspire both the poor and rich struggling on their Christian journey. They lent hope to the hopeless in their time of need in a most lovely way. The stained glass and the light dancing light were the perfect teaching tool for the Christian religion. As cathedrals grew in size and technology so too did the depth of the symbolism contained in the stained glass. The new colors achieved through evolving chemistry appeared on the windows and were given deep meaning. Read the list of the various ways colors and symbols came to have meaning on stained glass over time.
Stained Glass Symbolism Explained
- Jesus: Represented by Lifelike images; cross; lamb; a shepherd
- Holy Spirit: Represented by a flame; wind; a white dove
- The Saints: Represented by an image of the man or woman; the name of the saint; the way the saint was martyred
- Virgin Mary: Often depicted wearing blue robes; on her own or with her son
- Black: Death
- Blue: Heavenly Love, Virgin
- Brown: Death
- Grey: Mourning, Humility
- Green: Spring, Charity, Life over death
- Purple: Royalty God The Father
- Red: Love, Hate, Martyred
- Violet: Love, Truth, Passion, Suffering
- White/Gold: Innocence, Holiness
- Yellow: Jealousy, Treason, Deceit
Why Stained Glass In Modern Churches?
Times have, of course, changed quite a bit since stained glass began adorning churches. Today most church folks here in the US can read the bible for themselves. Meaning they don’t need stained glass to guide the way. However, stained glass on churches still remains revered and important. Many religions have come to embrace these lovely works of art. Today, rather than being a teaching tool for this generation, stained glass has become a way to preserve history for the next generation. Because today’s church stained glass has significant historical value. Furthermore, while still useful for conveying religious themes–it also has become very valuable secular art. Since stained glass in the US was made in an era of what could be considered the last frontier–it has intrinsic historical value. Furthermore, churches today often use stained glass windows to honor beloved family and patrons–making it valuable on a personal level. For these reasons, although stained glass in chapels and churches has changed over time, it is just as important today as it was 1000 years ago. It is an incredible asset for any church to preserve and restore when necessary.

Many people have probably heard about the famed artist Marc Chagall. He was a Russian-French artist and widely known as an early modernist by his critics and admirers. His body of paintings include works like
“I and the village”
Although mostly associated with the modernist movement he was interestingly enough known for several major artistic styles and created art in many different formats painting, book illustrations, stage sets, ceramic, tapestries art prints notwithstanding.
Marc Chagall The Stained Glass Master
A prolific and amazing artist known for his exquisite used of color, Marc Chagall was also, as it happens a prolific stained glass artist. In fact, Marc Chagall’s stained glass windows are known and loved worldwide for their beauty. Interestingly enough Chagall didn’t start working in stained glass until his 70’s–which is incredible considering the breadth and talent of his stained glass work. But it is also no surprise either because Chagall, in all of his artwork, was so very in tune with light and color. This attention to where light would shine through his stained glass windows paired with the clever exploitation of glass properties to extract the most amazing colors–were the ingredients to his overwhelming success.
Marc Chagall Stained Glass For Churches
Chagall did a number of church stained glass windows, in fact, he did many stained glass windows in Europe–France in particular, commissioned by quite a few churches internationally. However, his artistry was not relegated to just churches. Although he did a wide array of church stained glass window, rich with religious iconography, he did many more “secular” windows too. Some of those windows he did for and still are here in the United States. The series is called “America Windows” and can be viewed at the The Art Institute of Chicago. Stained Glass And Its Symbolic Meanings
Stained glass on churches here in Denver, as you know, is absolutely lovely. Throughout the city in churches and chapels large and small, stained glass graces these houses of God. However, what many people don’t understand about stained glass in cathedrals and churches here in Denver and around the world is– the glass designs and even colors have very deep meaning. That’s right, almost all stained glass in churches is symbolic of other things. So besides being beautiful, the stained glass has meaning too. So what does the stained glass in your Denver church represent? Read below to find out more.
Why Symbols And Colors Were Used On Stained Glass
In cathedrals around the world and here in Denver there are symbols everywhere–including stained glass. While they obviously are beautiful, they also were used because poor people in the very distant past, were unable to read. Therefore by using pictures, symbols, and colors, the clergy was able to easily give spiritual education to the commoners. In fact, stained glass windows were called “ The Bible of the Poor” because they were so heavily involved in instructing illiterate peasants. However, even after reading became widespread, these symbols and colors, already cemented in their meaning, continued to be used as choices to convey a spiritual message.
Common Stained Glass Symbols And Colors And Their Meaning
Jesus: Lifelike images, crosses, lambs, shepherds
The Holy Spirit: flames, winds, a white dove
The Saints: a man or woman; symbols associated with them, the manner in which they were martyred him or her
Virgin Mary: A female figure often wearing blue, the color blue
Stained Glass Color Symbolism
Black: Death
Blue: Heavenly Love, Virgin
Brown: Death
Grey: Mourning, Humility
Green: Spring, Charity, Life over death
Purple: Royalty God The Father
Red: Love, Hate, Martyred
Violet: Love, Truth, Passion, Suffering

The Story of Denver’s Missing Tiffany Stained Glass Window
On 07, Feb 2019 | No Comments | In Stained Glass | By Martin Faith
In 1910, one of Denver’s most influential industrialists had a home built for his family in the downtown area of the city. The house was constructed on the corner of 8th Avenue and Grant and, being 36 rooms large, was nothing short of impressive. Among other fine things, the home was equipped with a magnificent custom chandelier, beautiful wall hangings, and custom fixtures. A long stairway lead up to the front doors of the home, creating a grand entrance. But perhaps the most remarkable feature was the three section Tiffany stained glass window in the Denver home.
Numerous photos document the existence of the beautiful stained glass and its intricate detail. Old as the photographs are, there are no denying the stained glass’ incredible beauty and craftsmanship. The stained glass was not only a defining characteristic of the home, but also the surrounding neighborhood. That’s why when the beautiful artwork was discovered to have gone missing, people were shocked. How could such a large fixture suddenly vanish into thin air? Thus began the search for Denver’s mysterious missing Tiffany stained glass.

Find Out Here If Your Denver Church’s Stained Glass Need Restoration?

Stained Glass Is Durable But Older Glass Still Needs Restoration And Repair
Stained glass is a strong and durable material which is tinted with paints, pigments, and dyes making it the perfect medium for adorning churches and chapels and lasting for a long time. However, simply because stained glass is durable, does not mean it will not eventually need restoration or repairs. History tells us, church stained glass windows should be repaired or restored every 80-100 years. It is around this time the caming, wood frame, grout and glass begin to fail. If caught early, the window will last another 10 years before needing more repairs. If your church houses stained glass and you are wondering if it may soon need repair, review our guide below. We point out surefire signs of disrepair to look for on your chapel’s stained glass and give you advice on how to keep it looking lovely and intact for the next generation of your congregation.
Gaps In Your Church’s Stained Glass Window That Show Daylight
A clear sign that it is time to have a restoration done on your Denver church stained glass are gaps of visible light shining through the frame between the leading or glass pieces. Whether large or small this type of wear and tear must be addressed because these gaps mean the lead is stretched and structurally unsound and that the surrounding glass panels are no longer held securely in place. You risk the possibility of a piece of glass falling out of the window, so a stained glass professional should be brought in to take a look.
Buckling, Bowing And Sagging Of Your Church’s Stained Glass
If the stained glass windows in your church are buckling, bowing, bulging or sagging, you could be risking an actual collapse. A worst-case scenario we know– but not unheard of. Any falling glass is bad glass and it could harm parishioners. This type of damage is not from the glass failing but rather from the wood frame, expanding and contracting over time. This type of movement causes the frame to lose strength and takes a big toll on the lead caming– causing it to bend and lose strength as well. This is an issue that needs to be repaired soon to immediately by a professional.
Chips And Cracks In Your Church’s Stained Glass
The most common repair to church stained glass windows and the least dangerous are the chips and cracks in the glass. A fix like this is not pressing but affects the beauty and luster of your church’s stained glass. Keep in mind that cracks could also be an indication that the glass is under stress–mean the frame could fail. So, if you notice cracks getting bigger or increasingly popping up, contact a professional stained glass repair company like us at Denver Stained Glass.
Keep the Character of Your Denver Victorian Home Intact By Restoring Stained Glass

Stained Glass in Denver Victorian Homes
Are you the owner of an older Washington Park, colloquially known as “Wash Park,” or perhaps you reside in a Victorian Home in Park Hill east of City Park? If your house features stained glass, or you are considering replacing some windows with stained glass, regular restoration work is an important part of the process. Having a professional like the long-time experts at Denver Stained Glass is crucial to proper stained glass restoration that helps expand the lifespan of these lovely artisanal works.
The Fragility and Durability of Stained Glass
While glass can be fragile, it is also an extremely durable material that can last for years and years when regular and careful care is taken, as you can see in centuries-old cathedrals and castles in Europe as well as more modern Victorian houses in Denver.
Fracturing and breakage is most often caused by physical impact. Damage may happen from one of Denver’s annual hail storms, or perhaps a poorly aimed ball thrown by a child in your neighborhood. Regular use of operable doors and windows, can also result in the need for stained glass restoration. When you open or close a stained glass door or window, the vibrations or force used can lead to natural wear and tear. Dirt and soot naturally build up, too, exacerbated by the many windy days in Denver. Stained glass is also susceptible to scratching and etching from abrasives and chemicals, so it is important to know the glass before taking any steps.
Why Consider Stained Glass Restoration?
Issues are more likely to arise when you do not know the history of workmanship or care, including the workmanship in stained glass restoration. A stained glass restoration professional will be able to deduce what measures to take based on hints like building features, dates of construction and major additions, stylistic and compositional elements, types of reinforcement and leading, artists’ inscriptions, and more. For example, round bars were used since the Middle Ages and up until the 1920s, whereas flat bars were introduced in the late 1800s and increased in commonality in modern times. Detailed considerations like these can literally make or break the stained glass restoration process.
Denver Stained Glass has been locally owned and operated for 25 years, helping Denver residents with stained glass projects of all kinds. Repairs To Cracked Or Broken Stained Glass On Your Grand Junction Church
On 18, Sep 2018 | No Comments | In Aggrigate, Stained Glass Repair And Restoration | By Martin Faith
Minor Repairs To Broken Church Stained Glass and Small Cracks
Cracks in stained glass are pretty common and definitely something you will start to see on older glass that has stood the test of time. If you have looked at your Grand Junction church’s stained glass and seen chips, cracks, and even broken glass– you are not alone. As it were, minor repairs, like replacing a few pieces of broken glass here are fairly easy to repair in the frame but for major repairs to stained glass windows, the entire window absolutely must be removed and the stained glass repaired in a professional studio. Small repairs are called drop-in work and are something we, at Denver Stained Glass, do quite frequently, although we do major restoration work too. Drop in work usually entails cutting the came flange around the broken piece of glass at the solder joints then folding it back to repair or replace the old glass. We try to keep the original glass in the window whenever possible–but if necessary we are quite skilled at creating matching pieces in our studios.
Repairing Cracks In Grand Junction Church Stained Glass
For badly cracked stained glass–replacement is the only options. In very bad cases like these, the church stained glass window is best restored by removing it and replacing the glass. But, other times, small cracks can be fixed without replacing the glass and while it is in place. It all depends on where the affected glass is located and how badly it is cracked. Remember, since cracks in stained glass will enlarge over time (as the edges grind against one another) it is important to have cracks looked at and repaired as soon as you see them.
Stained glass options for repair include:
Copper Foiling: One of the oldest and most common ways to repair stained glass cracks on church glass. It is usually the best option when a piece of glass has only one or two cracks. In this method a thin copper foil is laid along each side of the break, trimmed and soldered. Since the foil is so incredibly thin, it has little aesthetic impact on your Grand Junction church’s stained glass
* Please note: copper foil repairs should not be used on unstable glass
Epoxy Edge-Gluing: This technique results in an almost invisible line and is, for this reason, often used on painted glass. The reason why is because epoxy can be tinted to match the glass. This is also a great method for shattered glass or microscopic cracks. Epoxy produces a very strong repair but deteriorates in sunlight–so it usually requires secondary glazing to protect it from UV degradation.
Silicone Edge-Gluing: This repair method has the lowest strength and is a quick fix used when a flexible joint is needed. However, it will do nothing for the long-term strength of your glass. Luckily it is easily removed because it is unattractive and essentially useless long for the preservation of valuable church stained glass.
Although Denver Stained Glass is a company that primarily focuses on the front range, we have done numerous church stained glass repairs and restorations in Grand Junction and all over the western slope. So please Contact us today for more information and pricing on repairing and restoring the stained glass in your Grand Junction church!

How Stained Glass Increases The Value Of Your Denver Home

Stained Glass Increases The Value Of Your Denver Home In More Ways Than One
You are probably well aware how gorgeous stained glass is and the elegance it adds to any home lucky enough to have stained glass on its windows, doors and other areas. However, what you may not know is just how much stained glass can be worth to you when it comes time to sell your Denver home. That’s is correct–stained glass windows don’t just hold their value when it comes time to sell but to increase the value of your home too.
How Stained Glass Affects The Sale Of Your Denver Home
Stained Glass Windows Increases The Sale Price Of Your Home: Stained glass has a very good return on investment and is known to make homes appraise for much higher than homes without stained glass windows. So, the stained glass window that you pay $300 for could end up appraising at $3000. In fact, many stained glass windows appraise for more than $100 per square foot. By investing a little in stained glass today, you can ensure your home not only holds its resale value but actually gains value as it ages too!
Stained Glass Windows Add Curb Appeal To Your Home: Every buyer is looking for curb appeal in their new home. Stained glass is bright, beautiful and highly visible from the outside (especially stained glass in entryways and on transom windows). So, when people are looking at your home (with stained glass windows) versus similar homes without it, the loveliness of your stained glass could push your home into first position in the mind of a potential buyer.
Stained Glass Windows Give Your Home A Higher Perceived Value: The actual value of a home is something easy for you and a buyer to understand–it is the price it appraises for. However, there is also something called the perceived value that is a little more abstract. This is how much the buyer thinks of your home as costing. This is where stained glass really shines. Studies show that even if two homes have the same actual value, buyers perceive homes with stained glass to be more valuable. This means they are likely to bid higher to get them and if it comes to a bidding war, more likely to continue bidding higher because of this perception of value. This also means, in a cool seller’s market, a home with stained glass will sell faster.

The Perfect Time For Stained Glass In Your Denver Home Is Now
It is no secret that the real estate market in Denver, Colorado is booming right now! If you are trying to find a house to buy that is not such a good thing. But, if you are looking to stay in your home or sell it, there could not be a better time for your state of affairs. Because of this incredible market for homeowners and sellers, we at Denver Stained Glass are convinced, and apparently, our influx of new customers are too, that this is the absolute perfect time to put stained glass windows on your Denver home. Why? Well, the reasons are clear and we at Denver Stained Glass hope that you will take advantage of this critical and profitable time for home ownership in Denver.
Why Stained Glass, Why Now?
Higher ROI/Resale Value: Stained Glass for homes right out of the gate, regardless of real estate conditions has a pretty impressive ROI. Typically people see a 10X return on stained glass window spending meaning, for instance, a three hundred dollar ($300) piece of stained glass could increase the market value by $3,000. In a market like Denver, your return is sure to be much higher.
Increased Home Perceived Value: Just as stained glass increases the actual value of your home, it also increases the perceived value, meaning when people walk into your home the value they believe your home to have, is influenced by the stained glass they see. This is a fantastic tool for selling your home for the highest price possible if you are looking to sell. Even if you are not, it’s still a jaw dropping feature for guests who visit your home.
Upgrade Your Home Instead Of Move: Right now, even though home prices are at an all time high, it is very difficult for those who own homes in Denver to actually move. This is because even when you sell your current home for far more than you paid, you still need to find a place in a price range that doesn’t eat up all your profits. This is why people are opting to stay in their home and simply upgrade what they have to fit their needs. Putting in some custom stained glass windows is a great way to get the home of your dreams without moving! And as mentioned above, you are increasing the value significantly anyway with stained glass so-i-it is a win-win.
If we have you as convinced as we are that right now is the time to put stained glass windows on your Denver home, contact us today and let’s get you going on the custom stained glass windows and the home of your dreams!

But one thing that parents are never short of is sentimentality. They love to reminisce and hold a strong sense of nostalgia for family. Stained Glass Crests Are Transferable: Our family crests are most commonly made as hanging pieces. Stained Glass Windows As Art
Often times when people think about stained glass they associate it with churches right off the bat–and that makes sense since stained glass is practically ubiquitous to cathedrals, churches, synagogues and even mosques. Likely, stained glass is next most associated, in people’s minds with the victorian or craftsman eras of design. Anyone who owns a home built in either of those eras in fact probably has antique stained glass somewhere in their house already. This is in large part due to the fact that, during the mid to early 20th century designers like Frank Lloyd Wright and Greene and Greene, made the connection in American’s minds between home decor and stained glass. This ushered in a happy “new” tradition in modern stained glass design that continues in decor. At Denver Stained Glass we thrilled each day to carry on the work of design masters such as Frank Lloyd Wright and others who had such incredible influence on the path of stained glass and what we see on homes today.
